The P-plate Driver

Sunday, January 11, 2009, it's 9:17 PM.

This following post is dedicated to my beloved parents, and the aunt. They were the people who in a way, help in developing the following post.

I passed my driving car license for almost a month but trust is an issue when it comes to driving together with my parents. I do not understand why my mum just cant to understand, only to curse and blame me for being whatever that happens.

Just let me give a example:

It was a typical day at a typical T junction. Green light goes off so I turn right into the two-way lane. I was at the outer lane, in other words, the right lane. There was a lorry parked on the left [ it was none of my business, honestly] but I carry on driving. Then, this pathetic small car [ I was driving my dad’s Honda airwave ] was trying to cut into my lane.

I wasn’t slowing down, I didn’t had the intention to let him past because there was a car following closely behind me immediately after I turn. Nonetheless, that idiot cut half into my lane and stopped. WHAAAAADDDAAAFFFISH! E-Brake…

MumEh, cannot drive slower ah…” , “ Eh why you never let him come out of the lane” bla bla bla.

Man, I asked for fairness. While others undoing and driving like he owned the road, I am to shoulder the blame for the aftermaths actions.

2nd example:

Travelling on a expressway, 3-lane expressway from Jurong. I was in the middle lane. Traffic speed was about 60km/hr to 7-km/hr. God knows what happen in front but the damn freaking huge lorry jammed his fuckin brakes til I can see smoke from his wheels.

I was like 2 tight cars distance away from him, but I saw it. The car behind the lorry, and the one in front of me obviously brake like crazy.

I follow suit.

MUMEh, see lar! Still drive so fast.!”

I was hitting 70km/hr, on a god damn EXPRESSWAY. Its not fast honestly, and the reason that she thinks I am driving fast is because I brake like hell together with the cars in front of me, for that GOD DAMN LORRY.

Is it fair to me again ? Got scolded for something people done.

DAD *about to pull handbrake*, “you see people brake alr still never brake.”

Fact was I did, if not I would probably wont be here blogging right ? duh.

In conclusion, I think I would refrain from driving when my parents are beside me because my mum is ridiculous. She is sitting on the backseat, while I am the driver. Perspectives are so different and ever changing, but she always give comments that was ridiculous, like above. To prove that, my brother is 25 years old, with years of experience under his belt but still can nagged at when he drives my mum out to some place.

What could I say more ? Being a new driver, I think I have to get used to such comments that destroys my confidence. I am not saying I am a good driver, because I am not. I need experience, and that comes with more driving. But I am not a very bad driver too, if not I wouldn’t pass the test right. My point I am trying to drive at is while I am on the journey of gaining more experience to drive, I cannot let such people be my passenger because they don’t know what driving is all about and give comments like some uncles cursing at soccer players, which in turn, hurts my confidence.

There you go, see ya soon. All the best to all people taking their licenses, and people just be more understanding. We are P plates afterall, cheers! J
